This spotted brown spider was found sheltering from the rain in a hedge – actually, he was sitting on his web at first and retreated quickly, as tiny raindrops began to settle on the silky strands.
At one point, I must have got too close with the camera lens, as he started waving his front legs around and lunging aggressively towards the camera. Watching him through a macro lens was enough to make me back off, lol.
Here in the UK, there aren’t really any notably huge garden spiders (thank goodness), but this one was relatively large, his body measuring approximately 2cm long, with thick, striped hairy legs – and attitude!
His web spread across a good portion of hedge, with an anchor line leading to the sheltered hideaway where he’d settled.
There’s been a noticable increase in the number of garden spiders (and webs) just recently, so I guess it must be Spider Season ;0)
