Snowberries (symphoricarpos) growing – I guess you could call it semi-wild – in a local park.
The snowberry is native to North America and has been introduced in Britain, where it now thrives.
Snowberries are a member of the honeysuckle family, producing tiny pink flowers in summer and large white berries in the early autumn, sometimes fruiting alongside the last of the summer blooms.
The snowberry is a deciduous shrub and consequently sheds its leaves, but the white berries may stay on the bare twigs for much of the winter, providing a food source for birds, bears, gophers, sheep and cattle.
