365 Day Photography Project Day 204: The Largest European Garden Spider I Ever Set Eyes On

This is a huge European garden spider that I came across in the park – thankfully not so near to home!

I thought the European spiders I’d spotted in the garden were large (by UK standards, you understand), but this was so large and round, I almost didn’t believe what I saw at first glance.

The spider was wrapping up it’s freshly caught lunch, sitting in the middle of an enormous web. The web was quite close to the ground at the edge of some bushes and I was relieved to have spotted it, just before I walked into it!
