
A couple of white pigeons or rock doves, as the original pigeon was known (family Columbidae), exhibiting just one of several morphs (feather colouration and pattern) found in pigeons.
Irrespective of feather colour, pigeons have excellent visual acuity and not only perceive the world in colour, but can also view light from the ultraviolet spectrum (imperceptible to the human eye).
The birds develop powerful wing muscles; pigeons have been recorded flying up to fifty miles per hour and covering distances of as much as six hundred miles in twenty-four hours.
The snow in today’s image is so soft and cottony, you can almost imagine the birds are perched on a fluffy white cloud…
